As I expect most of you know, the costs of electronics and computer components have been rising rapidly (especially over the past year). Unfortunately, this means the Scribe is overdue for a price increase to cover both higher component costs and the labor required for building, configuring, and supporting the Scribes.
We know you all have your own budget pressures, so we will honor the current pricing of $1600 for the Scribe Mini and $1900 for the Scribe 2.0 through April 30 to give organizations considering acquiring a new Scribe time to place orders prior to the price increase.
Beginning May 1, 2026, the new pricing will be:
- Scribe Mini - $1950
- Scribe 2.0 - $2400
- *Scribe Mega? - estimated $2900
- *Scribe Micro - estimated $1500

Yes, we’re developing a larger capacity Scribe option! Spoiler alert: The current design in testing handles 30 cartridges at once, but the final cost, components, and even name are all still under consideration. To be part of those decisions, please watch for a short survey coming soon. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as we evaluate this possibility.
What is the Scribe Micro?
The Scribe Micro is a one-cartridge slot Scribe designed for mobility with an eye toward use at outreach events, in book mobiles, or partner institutions. Check out the NLS Regional Northern-Western or Midlands-Southern recording for more information and a look at an earlier prototype. The final design is still in development to ensure that it is sturdy enough for field use. We expect to share the final details and pricing by late spring or early summer, at which time the Micro will be available to order.
