We at Keystone have been working hard over the last year on features that will be helpful to you in the future.  Here’s a preview of some features that you will be seeing in the coming months.

These features will be part of the next update to KLAS 7.3.  We will make an announcement when this update is available to allow for the scheduling of the upgrade.

Full MARC Records Overlay

We will be contacting each library system to set up rules to govern how the library would like to incorporate data from the full NLS MARC records.  Once the rules are in place, libraries will be able to load the full MARC records to enhance their existing catalogue records.  The rules will establish the parts of the existing records that should be replaced by the data in the full MARC, as well as those MARC tags that should be added on to the existing record, and any additional searching options the library would like.

Title Linking

With the pending receipt of books in digital format, there is a need for more streamlined cataloguing of materials.  The Title Linking feature, available in the next update to KLAS 7.3 will include:

  • HasHad exclusion checks in Nightly and Book Search will count a HasHad for one linked title as a HasHad for all linked titles.
  • The option to copy a library determined list of fields, such as subject codes, from one linked title to the others.
  • Automatic linking of RC/DB titles based on NLS Book number.

Uploading of BARD information

An interface for the loading of the monthly BARD download statistics files to automatically create HasHad records for those titles the patron has downloaded directly from NLS.

Note:

Both the Title Linking and the BARD Upload will require an upgrade to KLAS 7.3, once these features are tested and available.  The upgrade from 7.2 to 7.3 is considered a major upgrade and will involve uninstalling and reinstalling KLAS on every workstation.  We will work with each library and their IT staff to schedule a convenient time for this process.
