Some questions related to what is actually being asked for:
  • Are you looking for a true auto-send of emails without review? i.e. batch process that emails patrons as soon as materials become overdue.
  • Ability to specify patrons that would prefer to get emailed notices and send as part of the notice process?
  • What sorts of criteria would you envision being used to generate an email and how would you want to control it?
Note -
The ability to batch notices that was released in 7.5r4d (May 2014) was a necessary step in the development of notices to be able to divide up a set of notices into different formats according to the needs and preferences indicated by patrons. Emailed notices is a logical next step from this process, but our expectation was to keep tehm as part of the regular notice process.

In order for automatic email overdue notices to be useful to our library, we'd like to see the following (in this order of priority)

1) customized automated parameters: we like being able to say when an overdue notice should be sent out, instead of it being automatically dictated by the due date. If we had the option of setting the parameters and then letting the system automate from there, that would be really nice.
2) designate email or print: sounds like you are already working on this feature. Make it so the form can either be sent via email or printed depending on the patron's preference. It will enable us to use the form that is already available in KLAS, but it will also decrease the manual work it takes to mail out overdues. We'd also need to specify the return email address so patron's reply to the correct inbox.
3) auto-note in overdues comment: right now we track overdues with a running comment, meaning there is one subject that has notes for each time a person is sent an overdue notice. If KLAS could search for and auto-populate a specified comment with a note when an overdue notice is generated, or start a new comment if it doesn't find the specified comment, that would be awesome and save us a ton of time.
